  • The Fairtree Atterbury Theatre invites you to our 15th birthday celebration, featuring the marvellous Charl du Plessis in My Favourite Things — a personal journey through classical and jazz piano.

Steinway Artist Charl du Plessis presents My Favourite Things in concert – a carefully curated program that reflects the breadth and refinement of his musical voice. The performance takes place at the Fairtree Atterbury Theatre on 18 May at 19:00 and celebrates the theatre’s 15th birthday, offering audiences an intimate live experience of an artist equally at home in classical and jazz traditions. The solo album with the same title has just been released, and Charl will play tracks from this new release in the concert.

Moving seamlessly between classical piano repertoire and jazz-inflected reinterpretations, Du Plessis creates a musical journey that balances elegance, spontaneity and expressive depth. The programme features works by Brahms, Chopin and Rachmaninoff alongside imaginative crossover arrangements of Mozart and Beethoven, approached with clarity, refinement and a natural sense of swing.

Well-loved melodies such as Salut d’amour, Rustle of Spring and Bésame Mucho are reimagined through Du Plessis’ distinctive pianistic lens, where lyricism and rhythmic vitality coexist effortlessly.

Also included are an improvisation on Somewhere Over the Rainbow from The Wizard of Oz and a sensitive arrangement of the traditional South African song Ntyilo Ntyilo, underscoring Du Plessis’ longstanding engagement with improvisation and musical storytelling.

My Favourite Things promises an evening of virtuosity, warmth, and stylistic freedom in the hands of one of South Africa’s most versatile pianists.
